Chyna Thomas, the 22-year-old sister of Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas, died in a one-car collision early Saturday in Thomas’s home state of Washington.
Police said the accident occurred at around 5 a.m., when Chyna Thomas’ car suddenly drifted onto the left shoulder of the highway and traveled about 50 feet before hitting a large metal pole.
According to Washington State Patrol Thomas, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene of the accident.
Isaiah Thomas is a high-scoring guard for the Boston Celtics. From Tacoma, he played at Curtis High School and the University of Washington.
«We are terribly saddened by the tragic loss of Chyna Thomas,» the Celtics said in a statement. «The thoughts and prayers of the entire Celtics organization are with Isaiah and his family.»
The Celtics open the playoffs Sunday in Boston against the Chicago Bulls.
