Little Danny Smith sat in a £650 rose gold high chair and adult guests enjoyed a free bar at the Essex wedding venue hired by his grandma Sharon Moseley.
She explained that there was a particular cause for celebration as they previously feared her daughter Georgia, Danny’s mum, would be unable to have children.
The grandma said: ‘People who know me know that I would do it best. If you are going to do it, you have to do it properly. You only live once so why don’t you enjoy it! ‘Why shouldn’t I celebrate the birthday of my grandson, what an amazing thing that has happened.
‘I would do it again. I’m proud to be British and I wanted the party to reflect that, which is why it has a soldiers theme.’
And so it was that she invited over 170 guests to a soldier-themed party at a luxury wedding venue. There was a four-tiered cake and an open bar for the adults which cost £2,500.
The 60 kids were treated to chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers and chips — all served on silver platters, naturally — while the grown-ups gorged themselves on fresh seafood, salmon bagels, hot pork buns and jellied eels.
Danny changed outfits three times and there was a Punch and Judy show. There were also party bags that included a water bottle embroidered with Danny’s name.
Georgia Mosely, Danny’s mum, broke her pelvis in a car crash in 2008 and developed pneumonia in hospital, with a gynaecologist warning her she may not be able to have children.
