A woman has shared an important message about service dogs to help people know when the animals are trying to summon assistance for their owner.
Tessa C. took to social media to share a story about how her dog Raider was seeking a stranger’s attention after his owner fell, yet the stranger told Raider to go away. Dog mistook Tessa’s fall for a seizure, but luckily she only accidentally tripped.
Nevertheless, her message shows how important it is to know how to act near a service dog.
In her PSA she told people how important it is to follow the service dog if he approaches you since it means that the dog’s owner is in danger.
The woman ended the post by saying her dog’s training is going to be updated so he learns to move on if the first person he approaches doesn’t cooperate. However, she believes everyone should know what to do in that situation.
Her post was liked and retweeted more than 375,000 times on Twitter.
Online, people revealed that they had no idea service dogs might work in such a way.
If a service dog approaches you, follow him. I didn't know… https://t.co/oEwDpi1XPY

I honestly didn't know that I was supposed to follow a service dog in a vest if it approached me by itself.
I do now.
So do you.
The world is a slightly better place. Well done us. https://t.co/uzVCs4zQNe

This could save a life — if a service dog approaches you without their owner, please assume that their owner is in danger and that the dog is looking for somebody to help them out ?? https://t.co/rrjr7p9u6u
