An elderly Chinese man risked his own life by going into a river to rescue a drowning 8-year-old boy. It turns out that he’s done this kind of thing before.
According to a video shared by Jiangsu Television, 80-year-old Xu Weifang said that he and his wife had heard a little boy screaming for help while frantically paddling to keep his head above water.
Despite an injury he suffered from falling down a flight of stairs two years ago, Xu managed to lower himself into the water and save the child with the help of his wife, Wu Xiaomei.

When Xu later stopped by the hospital to make sure that the boy was okay, he discovered that he knew the boy’s father as well.
That’s because Xu had rescued the man from drowning in the very same river 30 years ago.
Xu and Wu revealed that they have rescued at least four people from drowning in the same river by their house.
Hopefully, the boy he just rescued will give his own son some swimming lessons, so Xu doesn’t have to take the plunge again at age 110.
