About one ton of chocolate from a German factory spilled onto a roadway, halting traffic and making chocolate lovers all over the world to well up with tears of sadness.
The road was closed in the western town of Westonnen on Dec. 10 after a tank of chocolate at the DreiMesiter factory spilled its contents and coated the street in a sticky mess.
But the chocolate quickly solidified in its chilly environs, making cleanup a monster headache for about 25 firefighters who manned shovels, hot water and blowtorches to remove the mess and get traffic flowing smoothly again, reported BBC News.
“Despite this heartbreaking incident, it is unlikely that a chocolate-free Christmas is imminent,” the fire department said.
The German newspaper Soester Anzeiger reported that a “small technical defect” involving a storage tank was the cause of the gooey mess spilling out into the town.
