Army Staff Sergeant Earl Granville ran in the Boston Marathon without the bike, and inspired millions when he picked up his running partner near the end of the course and carried her and an American flag over the finish line.
Granville was on his third deployment to Afghanistan in 2008 when his vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb.
Granville has competed in multiple marathons using a hand bike.
This was Earl’s fourth Boston Maraton.
