A Bedford County woman is pinching herself to see if she’ll wake up from a dream after she won big in a scratch off ticket with the Virginia Lottery.
Lisa Byers scratched to win $1 million in the Ultimate Millions game.
“This isn’t real,” she thought. “This is one of those fake tickets.”
But, she was wrong.
Byers bought her ticket for the $3,500,000 Ultimate Millions at the H&H Market on Lee Jackson Highway in Big Island.
She had the choice of taking the $1 million in 30 annual payments or a one-time cash option of $537,393 before taxes; she chose the cash option.
The $3,500,000 Ultimate Millions Scratcher features prizes ranging from $20 to $3.5 million; Byers is the first to claim the game’s second prize of $1 million, which means one more remains unclaimed.
One top prize of $3.5 million has been claimed, which means two more are unclaimed.
The chances of winning the top prize in this game are 1 in 1,305,600, but the chances of winning any prize are 1 in 2.85, according to the Virginia Lottery.
Byers said she has no immediate plans for her winnings, except to possibly have some work done on her driveway.
