A young girl in Alabama was arrested for allegedly setting her 10-year-old brother on fire.
Dothan police were called to the Southeast Alabama Regional Medical Center Friday night after a 10-year-old boy was brought in with severe burns on his back and arms.
The child was later transferred to UAB Hospital’s Trauma and Burn Intensive Care Unit. He’s expected to make a full recovery, police said.
Authorities said the girl doused her brother’s back with hairspray and then used a lighter to ignite the blaze.
Police have not said what her motive was.
The girl was reportedly charged with first-degree assault.
Investigator James Harvey said the girl was released into her parents’ custody because of her age ‘with mandatory guidelines and safety plans that must be followed by the Alabama Department of Human Resources’.
Harvey added that the girl will go before the Houston County Juvenile Courts at a later date.
